Long befo\u00adre then, Par\u00adtil\u00adle was a&nbsp;church vil\u00adlage. The church was built some\u00adti\u00adme between 1150 and 1250, most likely on the founda\u00adtions of an even older one, pro\u00adbably a&nbsp;wooden church. The parish is first men\u00adtio\u00adned in wri\u00adting in&nbsp;1392.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Once you have made your way under the Wes\u00adtern Main Line and S\u00e4ve\u00e5n, you wea\u00adve through the built-up area out to Land\u00advet\u00adter\u00adv\u00e4\u00adgen, which you follow up to Bj\u00f6rn\u00addam\u00admen. From the\u00adre it becomes a&nbsp;foot\u00adpath to the sout\u00adhern part of S\u00e4vedalen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">S\u00e4ve\u00adda\u00adlen was for\u00admer\u00adly cal\u00adled Ugg\u00adlums by. When a&nbsp;rail\u00adway sta\u00adtion was built in 1917, the name S\u00e4ve\u00adda\u00adlen was cho\u00adsen ins\u00adte\u00adad to avo\u00adid con\u00adfu\u00adsion with Uck\u00adlum in Bohusl\u00e4n.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Bj\u00f6rkek\u00e4rr<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After 7&nbsp;km you lea\u00adve Par\u00adtil\u00adle muni\u00adci\u00adpa\u00adli\u00adty behind and enter Gothen\u00adburg muni\u00adci\u00adpa\u00adli\u00adty. The district is cal\u00adled Bj\u00f6rke\u00adk\u00e4rr and is known for its well-pre\u00adser\u00adved 1950s set\u00adting and its con\u00adsi\u00adde\u00adred town plan\u00adning on hil\u00adly terrain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After anot\u00adher few kilo\u00admetres you come to Tor\u00adpa. The name is an old plu\u00adral form of <em>torp<\/em>, which does not mean a&nbsp;litt\u00adle red cot\u00adtage but a&nbsp;new sett\u00adle\u00adment bro\u00adken off from a&nbsp;lar\u00adger, older vil\u00adlage. Tor\u00adpa simply means a&nbsp;newly built vil\u00adlage split from an older one. Yet Tor\u00adpa is no long\u00ader all that new. The vil\u00adlage is men\u00adtio\u00adned as ear\u00adly as 1572&nbsp;in King John III\u2019s pri\u00advi\u00adle\u00adges for Nya L\u00f6d\u00f6se.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is whe\u00adre you reach the first check\u00adpoint of the day. But that is not why it is cal\u00adled K\u00e5ll\u00adtorp. The first ele\u00adment <em>K\u00e5ll<\/em> is thought to deri\u00adve from the man\u2019s name Kol\u00adle or Kul\u00adle. The suf\u00adfix <em>torp<\/em> refers to a&nbsp;new sett\u00adle\u00adment bro\u00adken off from a&nbsp;lar\u00adger, older village.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">H\u00e4rlanda<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When you reach Mun\u00adke\u00adb\u00e4cks All\u00e9 you see H\u00e4r\u00adlan\u00adda New Church on the other side of the road. Next to it lie the ruins of H\u00e4r\u00adlan\u00adda Church. It was Gus\u00adtav Vasa who, in 1528, had the old 12th-cen\u00adtu\u00adry church torn down to obtain mate\u00adri\u00adals for buil\u00adding the church at Nya L\u00f6d\u00f6se.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Nya L\u00f6d\u00f6\u00adse was the fore\u00adrun\u00adner of Gothen\u00adburg. The town was foun\u00added by the regent Sten Stu\u00adre the Elder in 1473. The following year the vil\u00adlage of H\u00e4r\u00adlan\u00adda, which lay next to the church, was dona\u00adted to it. The remains of Nya L\u00f6d\u00f6\u00adse are today the district of Gam\u00adlesta\u00adden, which you will walk through on the way&nbsp;back.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For Gothen\u00adbur\u00adgers, H\u00e4r\u00adlan\u00adda is pro\u00adbably best known for its pri\u00adson, which was in use between 1907 and 1997 and is today lis\u00adted as a&nbsp;buil\u00adding of cul\u00adtural value. You see it on your left as you walk along H\u00e4rlandav\u00e4gen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After H\u00e4r\u00adlan\u00adda Pri\u00adson you see \u00d6st\u00adra kyr\u00adko\u00adg\u00e5r\u00adden, the Eas\u00adtern Ceme\u00adte\u00adry, which was laid out in 1860. Many well-known Gothen\u00adbur\u00adgers rest here, among them Victor Ryd\u00adberg, Sven Adolf Hed\u00adlund, Otto Nor\u00addenskj\u00f6ld, Karin Boye, Sonya Heden\u00adbratt and many&nbsp;more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Danska v\u00e4gen and Lunden<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When you reach Red\u00adbergs\u00adplat\u00adsen you turn onto Dans\u00adka v\u00e4gen and short\u00adly come to Lunden.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The name has been known sin\u00adce 1724. The road is said to have been laid out and main\u00adtai\u00adned by the Danes them\u00adsel\u00adves, to impro\u00adve the going for their postal coaches, which appa\u00adrent\u00adly were not allo\u00adwed to pass through the for\u00adti\u00adfi\u00aded Gothen\u00adburg. Its pre\u00adsent rou\u00adte dates from 1961. Befo\u00adre that, the line was chang\u00aded both in 1736 and in&nbsp;1923.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The district you walk through is cal\u00adled Lun\u00adden after a&nbsp;farm first men\u00adtio\u00adned in&nbsp;1550.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">B\u00f6<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When you reach Val\u00e5s\u00adga\u00adtan you lea\u00adve Lun\u00adden and enter B\u00f6. The name is Old West Nor\u00adse and means farm. And this par\u00adticu\u00adlar farm has been known sin\u00adce&nbsp;1485.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the 1920s, B\u00f6 Vil\u00adlas\u00adtad and \u00d6rgryte Tr\u00e4d\u00adg\u00e5rds\u00adstad were built here. The vil\u00adlas and ter\u00adra\u00adced houses bear the stamp of 1920s Classicism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The hum from the E6 grows as you con\u00adti\u00adnue past \u00d6ver\u00ad\u00e5s Manor (built in 1861), Sankt Sig\u00adfrids Plan (from the 1920s) and \u00d6rgryte Old Church (built in the 15th cen\u00adtu\u00adry on the site of an 11th-cen\u00adtu\u00adry wooden church).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Liseberg, Svenska m\u00e4ssan and Korsv\u00e4gen<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Once you have crossed under the E6, you are met by Lise\u00adberg and Svens\u00adka m\u00e4s\u00adsan. At Kors\u00adv\u00e4\u00adgen you have to watch out so you do not get run over. The traf\u00adfic here is, as always, a&nbsp;tho\u00adroughly cha\u00ado\u00adtic affair, and the con\u00adstruc\u00adtion of the V\u00e4st\u00adl\u00e4n\u00adken rail tun\u00adnel has done not\u00adhing to impro\u00adve&nbsp;it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Befo\u00adre you con\u00adti\u00adnue onto S\u00f6d\u00adra v\u00e4gen, glan\u00adce left at Uni\u00adver\u00adsum and, behind it, V\u00e4rlds\u00adkul\u00adtur\u00admu\u00adse\u00adet \u2013 the Muse\u00adum of World Cul\u00adtu\u00adre \u2013 and right along Sk\u00e5\u00adne\u00adga\u00adtan, with Scan\u00addi\u00adna\u00advi\u00adum and Nya Ulle\u00advi among others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Lorensberg<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Lise\u00adberg was cre\u00ada\u00adted for the Jubi\u00adlee Exhi\u00adbi\u00adtion of 1923. So was Carl Mil\u00adles\u2019s sta\u00adtue of Posei\u00addon, which stands on G\u00f6tap\u00adlat\u00adsen. You reach it after wal\u00adking a&nbsp;short way along S\u00f6d\u00adra v\u00e4gen and then tur\u00adning left up Ber\u00adze\u00adli\u00adi\u00adga\u00adtan. Here you find some of the city\u2019s lar\u00adger cul\u00adtural insti\u00adtu\u00adtions: the City Lib\u00adra\u00adry, the City Theat\u00adre, the Art Muse\u00adum, the Art Gal\u00adle\u00adry and the Con\u00adcert&nbsp;Hall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Behind the Art Muse\u00adum lies N\u00e4ck\u00adros\u00addam\u00admen. The blocks around Lorens\u00adbergs vil\u00adlas\u00adtad in par\u00adticu\u00adlar have been home to influ\u00aden\u00adti\u00adal fami\u00adli\u00ades who play\u00aded a&nbsp;sig\u00adni\u00adfi\u00adcant role during and after Gothen\u00adbur\u00adg\u2019s indust\u00adri\u00adal&nbsp;age.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As you emer\u00adge onto Gibral\u00adtar\u00adga\u00adtan and con\u00adti\u00adnue uphill, you have Cam\u00adpus Johan\u00adne\u00adberg, part of Chal\u00admers Uni\u00adver\u00adsi\u00adty of Tech\u00adno\u00adlo\u00adgy, on your right. At the top you turn right onto Chal\u00admers Tv\u00e4r\u00adga\u00adta and cross the cam\u00adpus to come out at the main entran\u00adce. The first fami\u00adli\u00ades moved in in 1914, and ten years later the area was com\u00adple\u00adte, with 63 pro\u00adper\u00adti\u00ades for 105 fami\u00adli\u00ades. The idea was that ordi\u00adna\u00adry wor\u00adkers should have the chan\u00adce to own their own home ins\u00adte\u00adad of ren\u00adting. Back then it was a&nbsp;typi\u00adcal wor\u00adking-class district of around 2,200 homes, most of them wit\u00adhout an indo\u00ador toi\u00adlet or sho\u00adwer. During the \u2019demo\u00adli\u00adtion mania\u2019 years, the buil\u00addings were dee\u00admed out\u00admo\u00added, and between 1967 and 1973 the who\u00adle district was level\u00adled. Of the old Lan\u00adda\u00adla, only Lan\u00adda\u00adla Cha\u00adpel from 1885 remains today \u2013 it was moved asi\u00adde when the bull\u00addo\u00adzers&nbsp;came.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On the clea\u00adred ground, 2,600 new flats were built in the ear\u00adly 1970s in the sty\u00adle of the Mil\u00adli\u00adon Pro\u00adgram\u00adme, grou\u00adped around Lan\u00adda\u00adla Torg, which opened in 1973. Of the old grid, the rich stre\u00adet life and the small sca\u00adle, not\u00adhing remains today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The name \u2019Lan\u00adda\u00adla\u2019 is thought to come from the cop\u00adpersmith Bengt Landin, who owned the land in&nbsp;1782.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Vasastaden<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As you walk down Asch\u00adbergs\u00adga\u00adtan you enter Vasas\u00adta\u00adden, known for its con\u00adti\u00adnu\u00adous sto\u00adne-built city blocks from the late 19th and ear\u00adly 20th centuries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The town plan is the result of Swe\u00adden\u2019s first town-plan\u00adning com\u00adpe\u00adti\u00adtion, announced in 1861. As many as 23 ent\u00adri\u00ades were sub\u00admitted, and the win\u00adning pro\u00adpo\u00adsal from 1866 was inspi\u00adred by the bou\u00adle\u00advard systems of Vien\u00adna and Paris. The stre\u00adets are wide, the blocks regu\u00adlar, and Vasa\u00adga\u00adtan is laid out as a&nbsp;main showca\u00adse stre\u00adet with tree-lined avenues down the middle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Today 65 per cent of the houses were built befo\u00adre 1930, making Vasas\u00adta\u00adden one of the country\u2019s best-pre\u00adser\u00adved sto\u00adne-built city districts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When you reach Vasaplat\u00adsen, follow Vasa\u00adga\u00adtan east\u00adwards towards Avenyn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Avenyn and Kungsportsplatsen<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Kungs\u00adports\u00ada\u00adve\u00adnyn, or Ave\u00adnyn as eve\u00adry Gothen\u00adbur\u00adger calls it, is Gothen\u00adbur\u00adg\u2019s main showca\u00adse stre\u00adet, built in the 1860s. It cuts straight through what was once <em>lan\u00adde\u00adri\u00ader<\/em> \u2013 lar\u00adge esta\u00adtes out\u00adsi\u00adde the city walls whe\u00adre the bour\u00adgeoi\u00adsie kept sum\u00admer resi\u00addences and tobac\u00adco fields.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At the end of Ave\u00adnyn lies Kungs\u00adports\u00adbron from 1901, desig\u00adned by Eugen Thor\u00adburn in Ita\u00adli\u00adan Renais\u00adsan\u00adce sty\u00adle and inau\u00adgu\u00adra\u00adted by King Oscar II him\u00adself. It car\u00adri\u00ades you over the moat, and you have now ente\u00adred the histo\u00adric core of the city, which goes by the pro\u00adsa\u00adic name Inom Vall\u00adgra\u00adven \u2013 \u2019Wit\u00adhin the&nbsp;Moat\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Gothen\u00adburg was foun\u00added in 1621 by Gus\u00adtav II Adolf. To draw up the town plan, the king brought in Dutch engi\u00adne\u00aders, who laid out the city in a&nbsp;rectan\u00adgu\u00adlar grid with canals \u2013 inspi\u00adred by Amsterdam.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On the spot whe\u00adre Kungs\u00adports\u00adbron now stands, the city gate stood from 1621. It was later rena\u00admed Gam\u00adle Por\u00adten, then S\u00f6der Port, and final\u00adly Kungs\u00adpor\u00adten. A&nbsp;canal once ran here all the way down to Lil\u00adla Bom\u00admen by G\u00f6ta \u00e4lv. It was fil\u00adled in at the end of the 19th cen\u00adtu\u00adry to make more room for the growing traf\u00adfic on Gothen\u00adbur\u00adg\u2019s gran\u00adde\u00adst com\u00admer\u00adci\u00adal street.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But you do not take \u00d6st\u00adra Hamn\u00adga\u00adtan; you follow S\u00f6d\u00adra Larm\u00adga\u00adtan past Sto\u00adra Salu\u00adhal\u00adlen, built in 1888\u20131889, and on to Hvit\u00adfeld\u00adts\u00adplat\u00adsen. The\u00adre you follow the stre\u00adet down towards the moat, past the Eng\u00adlish Church built in 1857, and turn onto Rosenlunds\u00adga\u00adtan. Here you see one of Gothen\u00adbur\u00adg\u2019s most ico\u00adnic buil\u00addings: Feskek\u00f4r\u00adkan, com\u00adple\u00adted in 1874. It is a&nbsp;mar\u00adket hall for fish and shellfish.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When you reach Espe\u00adran\u00adtoplat\u00adsen and look up at the mas\u00adsi\u00adve bas\u00adti\u00adon Caro\u00adlus XI Rex \u2013 one of the few remai\u00adning parts of Gothen\u00adbur\u00adg\u2019s for\u00adti\u00adfi\u00adca\u00adtions \u2013 you stand whe\u00adre Karl\u00adspor\u00adten gate stood until 1821. From here, one could enter insi\u00adde the moat through the ravi\u00adne whe\u00adre Kungs\u00adga\u00adtan now runs up. On the left lies Sto\u00adra Otter\u00adh\u00e4l\u00adlan, and on the right Lil\u00adla Otter\u00adh\u00e4l\u00adlan, today bet\u00adter known as Kungsh\u00f6jd.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Accor\u00adding to the much-loved legend, Gus\u00adtav II Adolf stood on Sto\u00adra Otter\u00adh\u00e4l\u00adlan when he poin\u00adted down at the mars\u00adhy del\u00adta of G\u00f6ta \u00e4lv and utte\u00adred the famous words: \u2019Here shall the city&nbsp;lie\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Follow Kungs\u00adga\u00adtan down to V\u00e4st\u00adra Hamn\u00adga\u00adtan. As the name hints, a&nbsp;canal once ran here too. You are now in Nordstaden.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Whe\u00adre Smed\u00adje\u00adga\u00adtan meets Post\u00adga\u00adtan you see Kron\u00adhuspar\u00adken in front of you. Walk through the gate, cut across the park, and out through the gate in the wall that sur\u00adrounds Kronhuset.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Kron\u00adhu\u00adset was built as \u2019an artil\u00adle\u00adry and grain house\u2019 between 1643 and 1654. It is the second oldest secu\u00adlar buil\u00adding in Gothen\u00adburg. Only the county gover\u00adnor\u2019s resi\u00addence near K\u00e4m\u00adpebron is&nbsp;older.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When Karl X&nbsp;Gus\u00adtav sum\u00admo\u00adned the Riks\u00addag on 4&nbsp;Janu\u00ada\u00adry 1660, Kron\u00adhu\u00adset was used as the royal hall. Only a&nbsp;few days later the king fell ill. On 13 Feb\u00adru\u00ada\u00adry the king died at the resi\u00addence. He died at a&nbsp;moment when Swe\u00adden, owing to his poli\u00adci\u00ades, was under thre\u00adat from seve\u00adral quar\u00adters. For that rea\u00adson the three city gates were clo\u00adsed so that news of the king\u00ad\u2019s death would not spre\u00adad, whi\u00adle the procla\u00adma\u00adtion of his son, the four-year-old Karl XI, as the new king was hur\u00adri\u00aded\u00adly pre\u00adpa\u00adred. The histo\u00adric cere\u00admo\u00adny took pla\u00adce in Kron\u00adhu\u00adset\u2019s royal hall, which for a&nbsp;bri\u00adef moment was thus trans\u00adfor\u00admed from a&nbsp;mili\u00adta\u00adry sto\u00adre into Swe\u00adden\u2019s abso\u00adlu\u00adte cent\u00adre of power in a&nbsp;cri\u00adti\u00adcal&nbsp;hour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Around Kron\u00adhu\u00adset stand the Kron\u00adhus\u00adbo\u00addar\u00adna \u2013 18th-cen\u00adtu\u00adry works\u00adhops that today house crafts\u00admen, pot\u00adters, sil\u00adver\u00adsmit\u00adhs and a&nbsp;choco\u00adla\u00adte kitchen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Once you have pas\u00adsed Kron\u00adhu\u00adset you come to Gus\u00adtav Adolfs Torg. The\u00adre stands the City Hall, who\u00adse oldest part from 1672 was desig\u00adned by Nico\u00adde\u00admus Tes\u00adsin the Elder. The fun\u00adc\u00adtio\u00adna\u00adlist exten\u00adsion from 1936 is one of Erik Gun\u00adnar Asplun\u00add\u2019s inter\u00adna\u00adtio\u00adnal\u00adly most acclai\u00admed works, whe\u00adre moder\u00adnism meets baro\u00adque in a&nbsp;sop\u00adhisti\u00adca\u00adted balan\u00adce. The inte\u00adri\u00ador in par\u00adticu\u00adlar is regar\u00added today as an archi\u00adtectu\u00adral mas\u00adter\u00adpie\u00adce, celeb\u00adra\u00adted for its rich light and its care\u00adful\u00adly worked-out details, which toget\u00adher cre\u00ada\u00adte a&nbsp;uni\u00adque and har\u00admo\u00adni\u00adous atmosphere.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On the other side of the squa\u00adre spre\u00adads Nords\u00adtan, an area that at its ope\u00adning in 1972 was Swe\u00adden\u2019s lar\u00adgest con\u00adti\u00adnu\u00adous shop\u00adping cent\u00adre. What makes Nords\u00adtan uni\u00adque is that it con\u00adsi\u00adsts of eight city blocks built toget\u00adher enti\u00adrely under one roof. This makes the com\u00adplex one of the lar\u00adgest shop\u00adping centres in Euro\u00adpe, whe\u00adre the gla\u00adzed stre\u00adets hold around 200 shops and restau\u00adrants and 150 offi\u00adces. Here stood Drott\u00adning\u00adpor\u00adten, the third and last of the three gates of the for\u00adti\u00adfi\u00aded city of Gothen\u00adburg. Out\u00adsi\u00adde it begins the district cal\u00adled Stam\u00adpen, named after a&nbsp;ful\u00adling mill \u2013 a&nbsp;water-dri\u00adven instal\u00adla\u00adtion for finishing cloth \u2013 which in the 17th cen\u00adtu\u00adry made use of the water power in Fattighus\u00e5n.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The walk con\u00adti\u00adnues for a&nbsp;short stretch along Fat\u00adtig\u00adhus\u00e5n. At Pol\u00adhems\u00adplat\u00adsen you turn off onto Odins\u00adga\u00adtan, which furt\u00adher on changes its name to Friggagatan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This stretch is marked by lar\u00adge-sca\u00adle, uni\u00adform buil\u00addings put up in the post-war years. From time imme\u00admo\u00adri\u00adal the main road west\u00adward to V\u00e4s\u00adter\u00adg\u00f6t\u00adland has run along&nbsp;here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Seve\u00adral bloody batt\u00adles were also fought here when the com\u00adman\u00addant M\u00e5r\u00adten Kra\u00adkow defen\u00added the Gull\u00adberg fort\u00adress against the&nbsp;Danes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In 1866 it was deci\u00added to build a&nbsp;suburb for the wor\u00adking class. But con\u00adstruc\u00adtion did not get under way until 1880. The result was one of the city\u2019s most distin\u00adct wor\u00adking-class districts. A&nbsp;den\u00adse\u00adly built and cha\u00adrac\u00adter\u00adful pro\u00adle\u00adta\u00adri\u00adan set\u00adting grew up, which over time came to be marked by seve\u00adre overcrow\u00adding. One of the few buil\u00addings to sur\u00advi\u00adve is Sankt Pau\u00adli Church from&nbsp;1882.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Redbergslid<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is not sur\u00adpri\u00adsing if you recog\u00adni\u00adse the pla\u00adce when you reach Red\u00adbergs\u00adplat\u00adsen. You wal\u00adked here ear\u00adli\u00ader today. But now we are tur\u00adning onto \u00c5n\u00e4s\u00adv\u00e4\u00adgen and wal\u00adking through Red\u00adbergs\u00adlid\u2019s blocks of <em>lands\u00adh\u00f6v\u00adding\u00ade\u00adhus<\/em> from the 1920s \u2013 the cha\u00adrac\u00adte\u00adristic wooden houses on a&nbsp;sto\u00adne ground floor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Lands\u00adh\u00f6v\u00adding\u00ade\u00adhus<\/em> are three-sto\u00adrey apart\u00adment buil\u00addings with the ground flo\u00ador in sto\u00adne and the second and third flo\u00adors in wood. They appe\u00ada\u00adred in Gothen\u00adburg in the 19th cen\u00adtu\u00adry to sol\u00adve the housing shor\u00adtage. The rules said one could not build wooden resi\u00adden\u00adti\u00adal houses hig\u00adher than two sto\u00adreys becau\u00adse of the fire risk. And buil\u00adding in sto\u00adne made the homes too expen\u00adsi\u00adve. So the coo\u00adpe\u00adra\u00adti\u00adve housing com\u00adpa\u00adny Arbe\u00adtar\u00adnas Bygg\u00adnads\u00adf\u00f6r\u00ade\u00adning came up with the cre\u00ada\u00adti\u00adve solu\u00adtion of app\u00adly\u00ading to build one sto\u00adrey in sto\u00adne and two sto\u00adreys in wood. But that was not allo\u00adwed. After vari\u00adous twists and appe\u00adals, however, the idea was appro\u00adved by the county gover\u00adnor of G\u00f6te\u00adborg and Bohus county, Albert Ehrens\u00adv\u00e4rd the Elder. Hence the&nbsp;name.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Bagareg\u00e5rden and Str\u00f6mmensberg<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As you pass Red\u00adberg\u00ads\u00adkyr\u00adkan you lea\u00adve Red\u00adbergs\u00adlid and enter Baga\u00adre\u00adg\u00e5r\u00adden. The name comes from the fact that the baker Joachim Sch\u00f6n\u00adfelt lea\u00adsed a&nbsp;pie\u00adce of land here in&nbsp;1651.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">During the years 1907\u20131927, when Albert Lili\u00aden\u00adberg was city engi\u00adne\u00ader in Gothen\u00adburg, a&nbsp;new type of town plan was intro\u00addu\u00adced \u2013 more irre\u00adgu\u00adlar and adap\u00adted to the ter\u00adrain. In 1911 a&nbsp;medi\u00ade\u00adval\u00adly inspi\u00adred town plan for the who\u00adle of Baga\u00adre\u00adg\u00e5r\u00adden was adop\u00adted; it drew inter\u00adna\u00adtio\u00adnal atten\u00adtion at a&nbsp;town-plan\u00adning exhi\u00adbi\u00adtion. The wes\u00adtern part of Baga\u00adre\u00adg\u00e5r\u00adden was built up with <em>lands\u00adh\u00f6v\u00adding\u00ade\u00adhus<\/em> and vil\u00adlas between 1914 and 1930. Lili\u00aden\u00adber\u00adg\u2019s plan for the eas\u00adtern parts, however, was not car\u00adri\u00aded through. Ins\u00adte\u00adad a&nbsp;new town plan was drawn up in 1942, and the area now known as Str\u00f6m\u00admens\u00adberg was built with slab blocks and point blocks between 1944 and&nbsp;1958.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Hal\u00adfway down Str\u00f6m\u00admens\u00adberg you take a&nbsp;short detour onto Leff\u00adlers\u00adga\u00adtan. On your left you have handso\u00adme <em>lands\u00adh\u00f6v\u00adding\u00ade\u00adhus<\/em>, which testi\u00adfy to the wish to build with qua\u00adli\u00adty for the wor\u00adking class. On your right you have Svens\u00adka Kul\u00adla\u00adger\u00adfa\u00adbri\u00adken (SKF), foun\u00added in 1907 by Sven Wing\u00adquist. The\u00adse were built during the 1890s. Here was based the G\u00f6ta Artil\u00adle\u00adry Regi\u00adment (A 2) between 1895 and 1962 and the G\u00f6ta Anti-Aircraft Regi\u00adment (Lv 6) between 1942 and 1994. Sin\u00adce Lv 6&nbsp;was reloca\u00adted to Halm\u00adstad, Kvi\u00adberg Bar\u00adracks have been used for sport and other purposes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Utby<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When Kvi\u00adbergs\u00adv\u00e4\u00adgen changes its name to Utby\u00adv\u00e4\u00adgen you have reached Utby. Until the start of the 20th cen\u00adtu\u00adry this was farm\u00adland. Between 1910 and 1960, however, an owner-occu\u00adpi\u00aded suburb was built here for Gothen\u00adbur\u00adgers seek\u00ading fresh air and greenery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Utby is best known today for its lea\u00adfy vil\u00adla blocks and the dra\u00adma\u00adtic Utby cliffs that rise in the north. The cliffs are one of Swe\u00adden\u2019s most clas\u00adsic clim\u00adbing are\u00adas and draw clim\u00adbers from across the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Just after the jun\u00adc\u00adtion at Mell\u00adby\u00adle\u00adden you cross the litt\u00adle Mell\u00adby\u00adb\u00e4c\u00adken stream and the\u00adre\u00adby lea\u00adve Gothen\u00adburg to return to Par\u00adtil\u00adle municipality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Mellby and&nbsp;Lexby<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The first thing to meet you as you enter Par\u00adtil\u00adle muni\u00adci\u00adpa\u00adli\u00adty is Mell\u00adby \u2013 an area that has histo\u00adri\u00adcal\u00adly ser\u00adved as a&nbsp;hub for Par\u00adtil\u00adle\u2019s indust\u00adri\u00adal growth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The walk con\u00adti\u00adnues along Mell\u00adby\u00adv\u00e4\u00adgen and soon brings you to Par\u00adtil\u00adle Sta\u00adtion on the Wes\u00adtern Main Line. The sta\u00adtion opened in 1856, at the same time as indust\u00adri\u00ada\u00adli\u00adsa\u00adtion was tur\u00adning the medi\u00ade\u00adval church vil\u00adlage into today\u2019s town. The pre\u00adsent sta\u00adtion buil\u00adding, however, with its red brick and yel\u00adlow stuc\u00adco faca\u00adde, was built in 1901&nbsp;in Art Nou\u00adveau&nbsp;style.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the Lex\u00adby hills on the other side of the road, Para\u00addi\u00adset spre\u00adads out. It is a&nbsp;resi\u00adden\u00adti\u00adal suburb from around 1900 with sta\u00adtely wooden houses with orna\u00adte fretwork, from which you can enjoy the view over the valley.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Fair\u00adly soon you enter a&nbsp;typi\u00adcal ter\u00adra\u00adced-housing area from the mid-1970s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But when you turn onto Gam\u00adla Lex\u00adby\u00adv\u00e4\u00adgen the lands\u00adcape soon changes cha\u00adrac\u00adter.
