Take the soldier test

Elfsborgsmarschen is a two-day marching event in Gothenburg where you can take the soldier test. The soldier test involves marching 40 kilometers with at least 10 kg in your backpack if you are under 50 years of age. It is not a walk in the park – it is a test of your physical ability and mental endurance. Do you pass the soldier test?

Soldier Badge

If you pass the soldier test and wear a Swedish uniform, you will receive a badge after passing the soldier test. The soldier badge says “Soldatprov” (soldier test), “FM” (Swedish Armed Forces) and the year in which you took the test. The soldier badge is a pin that you attach to your name tag or the left breast pocket flap on your field jacket 90. Wear it with pride!

Test your endurance

Mental and physical endurance is the ability to keep going when your body wants to stop. Marching 40 kilometers with a backpack builds precisely that ability. This is training that translates directly to your service. When you know you can make it through 40 kilometers with a full backpack, you also know what you can handle in the field.

Camaraderie that builds the defense

When you march alongside both military personnel and civilians, you build the cooperation on which total defense rests. Here, professional officers, home guard soldiers, members of volunteer organizations, and civilians come together in a shared challenge that strengthens both defence and the society.

Purpose of Elfsborgsmarschen

Elfsborgsmarschen is organized by the Partille Home Guard Association with the purpose of strengthening participants’ physical and mental abilities, as well as strengthening the ties between the military and society by bringing together military and civilian participants in a joint challenge.

The Soldier’s Badge shows what you are made of

You have read about the requirements: 40 kilometers with a 10-kilogram pack. You know that the Soldier’s Badge is not given away—it must be earned. At Elfsborgsmarschen, you will have the opportunity to take the test in an organized and controlled manner.

This is not a regular hike. It is proof of your basic military fitness, your endurance, and your mental resilience. It is rucking with a clear military purpose.

More than a physical achievement

Passing a soldier test proves that you meet the basic physical requirements of a soldier. It is about being able to move yourself and your equipment over long distances and still be combat ready.

When you walk the 40-kilometer course at Elfsborgsmarschen, you do it together with like-minded people. You march side by side with comrades from the Home Guard, colleagues from the Armed Forces, and members of other voluntary defense organizations. The community along the course and the shared effort are an important part of the experience.

Build resilience and community

Elfsborgsmarschen is organized by the Partille Home Guard Association specifically to strengthen the ties between the defense forces and civil society. By participating and earning your soldier’s badge here, you actively contribute to that spirit. You show your commitment, test your abilities, and build the resilience required in your role.

And when you’re done? Then you won’t just have a badge on your uniform. You’ll have concrete proof, dated 2026, that you have what it takes. If you choose to walk both days, you can also secure Elfsborgsmarschen’s own medal.

The task is set. Show your ability.
